Cornucopia of Wellness: Part 2 Movement

Check out my last post https://www.guide2resilience.com/blog/cornucopia-of-wellness-part-1-wellness-plan-nutrition-and-life-balance) where I discussed how the components of a wellness plan, nutrition, and life balance in my cornucopia of wellness helped me to find resilience for healing. In this post, I will be talking about how incorporating movement helped me find wellness.

Movement has been an essential part of my wellness plan. It has become a theme in my journey to just keep moving forward in some way. Finding physical movement has been restorative. Having Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and POTS has added unique challenges. I learned the importance of acceptance and compassion towards myself in moving through these challenges. It has involved experimenting with various physical therapy, pilates, and aerobic exercise approaches to find what works best.  I learned to be more patient with myself and others trying to help me, especially when an approach did have the desired result.

Self-pacing has been a big part of my finding wellness through movement. I changed my mindset that I need to walk 30-minutes and do 20 minutes of strengthening each day for my exercise goal. Through listening to my body’s need for pacing myself, I learned to embrace that a 10-minute walk to conserve my energy for other demanding tasks can be a more effective goal. On rough days, I realized it is okay to take time to rest and recover. This is not giving up but building my resilience muscle to move me forward.

Just like a wellness plan, nutrition, and life balance are important components for wellness, incorporating movement in your cornucopia of wellness helps you develop resilience physically and mentally. Movement forward keeps you balanced.
